13 minutes to shave!
Yesterday’s muscle-loosening, knot-untying session facilitated today’s run I’m sure. I advanced to the next stage: walk 3, run 2 six times, and the last one was run 3. My throat was burning till I tried breathing thru my nose. As for legs, hips & feet, it was a relatively pain-free run until the last 30 seconds or so.

At 26:16 I finished 3K. Garmin showed 3.5K at...
Laps and dry needling
I ran for 32 minutes non-stop today, and only covered 400 meters. That is, I went to the pool and did some deep-water running. My version of doing laps for the time being. The pool = 25m, and it took two minutes to go from one end to the other, thus 8 minutes to complete 100m.
Then I went for some dry needling this afternoon. Electrical stimulation of knotted muscles — feels good!...
And now, twice shy
After all the running I’ve done, hundreds of miles over five years, it finally happened last Saturday.
What’s this? Some yappy little sumbitch dog BIT ME!! YES!! First time!
I love dogs, especially Jacks, Springers, Golden Retrievers, and all the Labs. I guess it’s their size, but I find the toys are the most aggressive, and it was a snarky little Bichon shih-tsu type that...

Update minus outdoor photos
On Friday I mostly walked, Saturday I took a chance on a bit of running, Sunday I had the old familiar back/leg pain so I thot I’d take a day off, Monday (yesterday) I was travelling and by the time I got home it was easy to make excuses for not getting out and doing something. But today I did this:
4.22K in 40:00
I did 3K in 28:28, and Garmin said 3.21K at the 30 min mark.
I started...
Back home for now
No running or walking yesterday, just stretching my legs now and then on the long ride back home. But I went out today, 3K in 30:34, then I ran a bit. Spurt running I call it. 4K in 38:50.
I did not enjoy the running. I felt sloppy, uncoordinated, with laboured breathing…. Like, I was missing THIS?? But I know it’ll get better!
@runningwithaltitude, that would be in Alberta. Until the...
Moving
No Garmin for distance or time, but I kept with my plan to run or walk every day in May. I moved for 20 minutes, walking then running to catch up to a 4 yr old, guiding a 2 yr old on his trike, pushing the 6 yr old’s bike home when the chain fouled up…. That kind of exercise.
Slower
Just walking today, 3K in 32:49 minutes. I forgot to take my earbuds and phone, so I just listened to the birds and the tick-ticking of my leki poles. The hamstring issue I mentioned yesterday managed to surface again today. I was going to go to the pool, but given the stiffness I think I’ll rest it a bit. I’ve been using The Stick; maybe I’ll foam roll tonight.
I found an 8-wk...

i hate how women have to “get ready” for swimsuit season. i hate how the magazines are covered in headlines about losing five pounds so we can all have abs for bikini season. so much pressure for something so silly.

Every day in May
May 1: 3K walk in 34 min
I know, I know, the last time I posted an “every-day-this-month” promise, I ran on the first day, and then descended into some sciatic nerve pain hell….. So I’m modifying my goal. I’m starting small, and my promise to myself is to MOVE every day in May. Hopefully that means starting with some walking and doing some pool workouts then working...

Hi all.
I haven’t posted in awhile, been catching up a bit with who’s doing what now & then, but the desire to post totally, seriously left me. I’ve been in my own little world of disbelief and discouragement and distress. Maybe Boston was a turning point for me because a) I can see how lucky I really am in the grand scheme of things and b) how, even tho I haven’t...

Outa circulation
Nuthin from me because my plan to run every day in March is a bust. My disc/sciatic injury has me OFF running — hell I can barely walk! I can’t take more than a half dozen steps, and I am in a daze. Foggy brain. I see runners and I weep. I see familiar running routes and my gut starts to scream in protest, what the frick??? Why me, how long, will I ever get back?? All running thru my brain...
Inspiration
One more thing… it was therapeutic for me to read thru my post-injury posts of 8-9 months ago. I was encouraged once again by the positive comments that my followers made, and I’d like to comment on one post in particular, by westcoastrunner, who said she’d had surgery for a back injury. I’d forgotten that, but I was immensely pleased and energized to see how she was once where I currently am —...
Holding pattern
I guess I owe some sort of explanation.
As far as running every single day in March goes, well … it doesn’t.
Perhaps it was over-exertion on Friday, going for a run after an hour-long aerobic workout of jumping, turning and twisting. Or a combination of other things, but I woke up with an old familiar pain on Saturday morning, and it’s gotten progressively worse since. Back to step one (well,...

NyQuil & DayQuil
I’m into my 18th day of a cold, complete with coughing, sniffling, blowing, losing my ability to speak and to taste or smell, this is nuts! This never happens to me! Well, once every few years I guess and this would be it. But it’s going on forever. I’ve still been doing some cross training in the pool and hiking, and aerobic workouts, but I can’t seem to shake it! I feel well enough to work out,...
To the summit!
So it was just a little summit, the uppermost point of Silly Mountain, in 25 minutes. Total distance = 1 mi. I accompanied my bro-in-law who has longer legs and is a hiker and a cyclist, not a runner — and I don’t think I lagged behind too much, if at all.
I know there are taller, steeper, more challenging climbs around, but this is only a couple miles from my doorstep....

New Kicks
First run in my new kicks. Verdict: WOW! They are very comfy, a bit loose around the ankles which takes some getting used to. They’re lower I guess. But it’s all good.
Outside temp varied between 77 degrees in the shade, and 90 degree under direct sunlight. I’d say it was in the low 80s for most of the run which I did in my nayborhood. I wanted to do four sets of run 10/walk 1...
Second training run
2.5 mi = 28 min
I took the 10K schedule in the “Do Life” book. Gonna try to methodically get myself in some sort of shape for a 10K in March. I’ve done it before; the Nun Run at Kiwanis Park in Tempe. But since I’ve been injured, and more or less off regular running since May of last year (Omigawd, has it been that long???) I thot I’d get a gradual start at...

Working up to a 10K
Forgot to post about yesterday’s run. Two miles around the neighborhood. First mile = 11:12, so just a couple seconds more than last time. Garmin said 22:12 at the second mile, so I guess that’s an 11-min mile, isn’t it? I’m liking it. Then I walked a bit more to cool down, and popped in the pool for some stretches and then the jacuzzi.
I felt nerve pain once, later in the day and only for...
Motivation or what?
I found this on the I Love to Run FB page. An excerpt from The Logic of Long Distance by Jeff Edmonds:
This is how it works:
Training is doing your homework. It’s not exciting. More often than not it’s tedious. There is certainly no glory in it. But you stick with it, over time, and incrementally through no specific session, your body changes. Your mind becomes calloused to effort....
Why are some days easier?
I was going to ask, “Why are some days harder?” but I thot I’d frame my question in a positive way instead.
It was the same run as last time: three miles, but it was good all the way through. I started out feeling invigorated and energized, and this feeling lasted for the entire run.
Because it was cooler than last time, is that happy feeling merely coincidental — or...
2 on 2
Two miles today, Jan 2 in 21:44.
Why was it so hard?
Maybe because I gained 3-4 lbs over the holiday.
Maybe because it happened at 5 p.m. after a whole day’s worth of doing stuff.
Maybe because I usually run first thing in the morning.
Maybe because it was only the third run in ten days.
I found it hard to keep going, but I did. Yay me.
I am reminding myself: not every run is...
