Another short run
June 30 2011
5K - 33:35
I did 3K in 19:30, slowed down for a 1 min walk, then finished the 5K.
5.5K Total - 41 min.
It rained last night, and it’s always so fresh when I go on a morning run after that. I was awake at 4:30, got up just after 5, wasn’t finished sleeping and when I started out I didn’t feel as energetic as I generally do, which might explain (i.e. be my...
Cycling
June 29 2011
Thot I’d get the bike out today. Went for 20K.
18K = 1hour and 13 seconds. Dang seconds, shoulda ramped it up a bit. Next time!
20K = 1:06:49
I’ve been asked if I’d like to do a marathon; the answer is a resounding NO!! But if I could swim, I would think about a triathlon, maybe. To me, a marathon would take too much training, and I know I’d have to be...
Long run
June 27 2011
Did my long run today, 10&1s.
10K = 1:09:20
More than a whole minute better than last week!
Cycling today
Sat June 25
Felt like cycling today so I did 15K in 55 minutes. I went on the lake path, expecting some Canada goose trouble but they’ve either headed further north where they’re supposed to go, or else they were out feeding already. Leaving copious amounts of crap behind.
There was quite a strong headwind as I was going west, then I was going into the wind as I went north, and still...
How it started for me
I run. I started three years ago because I liked the lean, slender, muscular look of distance runners, and I read an article in the Edmonton Journal about some guy in his 90s who was still fit mainly from running. Also, I was bored with my healthy eating & exercise regime, constantly conscious of the type and volume of food I was eating, and forcing myself onto the boring treadmill for a few...
What do you say to another runner?
June 24/11
Just finished a 6K run, 39:44 with one 1-min stop at the half way mark.
I met a couple of other runners out there, and a dog walker who looked like he understood why I was running. I smiled when I saw them and they smiled back, and we said “good morning” to each other. But I want to say more! I’d like to convey the idea that we share a special knowledge of something...
A good short run
4K in 25:45.
Cooldown for 15 min. Total: 5.35K in 40 min.
What a terrific run! Instead of starting from home like I usually do, I drove to Slawuta pond on the Jessie Lake trail where most things start. It was quite warm, I’d say 26C, but the trees provided shade and there was a bit of a cool breeze. It felt so good to get out there. I was thinking, I hope I can get out and run every day...
Cold is Good
Didn’t run today, did some grunt yard work instead. I’m noticing my Achilles after yesterday’s 10K, but that’s about it for stiff ‘n’ sore.
I read someone’s blog inquiring about putting painful joints etc in cold water. Yes!! After long runs I fill a bucket half full of cold water, dump in a pile of icecubes, and stick my feet in for 15 minutes. I was...
LSD Run
Wow, accountability works! A few times I wanted to just stop and say “good enough” — but writing it down yesterday (that I was going to do 10K) and knowing I was going to write about it today, well, it gave me an unforeseen boost! Odd about blogs — it matters not who (if anybody) reads them. The info is out there. And that makes me accountable.
It was cool. Windy but...
Slight Change of Plan
I was planning a 10K long slow distance run for today, but the wind was pretty fierce this morning, so I decided to do that tomorrow. In the meantime, after a certain amount of procrastination (i.e. I went at 3 this aft instead of 8 this morning) I took my bike for an invigorating ride.
50 minutes, about 10 or 11K. 10 for sure. The air is so fresh and clean and moist, I could suck it in forever!

June 18 running stats
A strong wind and some rain.
Warm-up walk 1K = 10 min
Run 2K = 13 min
Run/walk 2K = 14 min
Cool-down walk 2K = 20 min
Total: 57 minutes, 7K
I’m not as pleased as I’d like to be with my run. I was hoping to go 5K nonstop. Thot I’d be motivated from reading “Why I Run”, and I was — but not enough. The wind was quite strong, and I must’ve slept wrong...
June 17 run
Warmup: 8 min - .7K
Run: 5K - 33:15.
Cooldown: 2K - 22 min.
I stopped for a one-minute walk half way through and I still beat my time yesterday (where I did not stop) by five seconds. Guess I won’t keep feeling guilty about stopping.
My first 5K was three years ago when Carla Bosman, formerly of the Running Room, offered a running clinic when she was employed at the local Centennial...
Morning Run
Stats:
Total: 6.5K in 53 min
Warmup walk: .7k in 8 min, run 5K in 33:20, cooldown walk .8K in 11+ min.
It’s a cool day, just after a rain — my favorite kind of run. I felt like stopping to walk a couple of times, but kept pushing myself: let this song finish first, get to the next blue line first (the trail is paved and marked off in half-K sections with blue paint), stuff like...
I Took a Pass
After all my blabbing about how I love to run in the rain, I just sat here and watched it come down. Put it off and put it off till now I’m rationalizing that it’s too late to go (even with four more hours of daylight left) because I want to run in the morning, and how in the world can I recover for another run 12 hours from now?
Important info: Go as early as you can in the day...
Getting Started.
This Tumblr blog is meant to keep me accountable. I like running and I like entering races and training for them. I don’t like the word “race” because I don’t enter to beat anyone, just to improve my time. But it’s difficult at times to keep my motivation, my energy and my enthusiasm at the best levels. I can procrastinate, and I can get into a “white flour...
