Damn kicks
Long slow run: 16K = 1:55:08 I posted awhile back about setting my Asics aside and breaking in my Mizunos. I’ve been having some Achilles issues, and thot a change in footwear, especially for a long run, might be helpful. Not so much. Between kilometres 7 - 10, for the first time in my running life, I had hip pain. Yes! Right hip, don’t know if it was hip flexor pain or some...

Cycling 12K/7.46mi = 47:15 I still have tire issues; there’s something wrong with it. It was squeaking and rubbing as I went around the trail. Fixin’ time again! So I guess this means 80 min. devoted specifically to exercising today. I’ll take that!

5K = 32:50 I ran a bit later today, so it was hotter. But I circled back thru the trees a few times, got some shade and a breeze in my face! I felt like stopping a few times, but I did not. Tomorrow: supposed to be 16K. I’ll be busy so I’ll have to do it Monday. That’ll give me an extra day to recover from the pool yesterday. Shoulda been working out on one of those...

Not according to plan
Today is a cross-training day, so I was going to go for a 16-K (twice around the pond) bike ride. But when I went to drag it out of the shop, I noticed something wrong with the front tire. It was flat, so I plugged in our air compressor, planning to pump it up. Still, there was/is something wrong with the brakes — all those wires are tangled and the wheel isn’t turning properly. I hate...

Battery low
It happened again! I have to do 7K, but I don’t get started first thing like I usually do. It’s closer to noon and I’m thinking it’s too hot, but I get dressed anyway and step outside. The wind is strong and cool, so it’s NOT too hot. I strap on my Garmin and head out. It’s taking forever to “locate satellites” — and then, and THEN: the low...

Adaptations
Finished today’s run which included 7 (!) hills, however, I adapted. Modified. Compromised. Whatever. Since there are no hills on my regular running path, I opted for seven sprints instead. Meaning I went from my usual 6:30 - 7:00 pace to a 4:30 - 5:00 pace for 45 seconds. I know, I know, I really watered it down. But I tried running full out for an entire minute and maybe I could do that...

Running companion
In all my years of cycling or running, I’ve always wondered what would happen if a dog took notice of me. And in all these years, it’s happened about three times. No ferocious, vicious, territory-protecting canines — just bored dogs who envy my freedom to move uninhibited! The first two times, I could hear the owner screaming in the background: “Lucy! Come back here!”...

Back into my routine again! Schedule called for 5K, hey, I’m happy to comply. My goal was to complete 5K ns, and I did, in 32:56 min. Longer than my usual, but there it is. My time at 4K was 26:26, and after a 1K cooldown my total time exercising was 43:33. And now I’m off to the pool. Massage this aft, where I’ll get some inspiration and encouragement from my RMT who is also a...

Recent runs
This is a park where I decided to run when I was away from home, i.e. away from my regular route. I did a few laps, each time encountering grazing deer. Which is fine, except that on the first lap, I startled him and he startled me. He hopped away snorting, and once he’d reached the safety of a bluff of trees, turned to glare at me and stomp and snort in true scolding fashion. And the...

Struggling with a training schedule
I’m back home now after 12 days away, during which I ran 5K three times and 3K (with hills!) twice. So that’s seven days of NOT running, Three would have been days off anyway. So basically I missed four days of running, but I did 18 holes of golf on three of those days and that included a fair bit of hill climbing — and the scales shows me DOWN three lbs so I must have been doing...

I am still far away from home, in the mountains of BC at golf school modifying my running schedule of necessity, doing some extra hill training (obviously) but unable to do my long run, and because of some glitch, unable to post on my laptop and unable to comment or “like” anything. But I should be back home in a few days. Meanwhile, I am still following you on Tumblr, struggling to...

Better late than never
It was bugging me that I only went 10K today instead of 12 like I was supposed to. So I decided to make up the difference this evening. I must say, I’m getting fonder and fonder of evening runs. I did 2K in 13:14 so that would be a 6:37K. I’m okay with that. Maybe I should have done 6 this morning and six tonight, but…. oh well…. next time!

Falling behind
My long run was supposed to be 12K, but I stopped at just over 10 because I have only run three times since my long run last week (I had two others scheduled in there). I was away, and I’m re-packing to go away again for 10 days, so my running will again need to be adapted/adjusted. I’ll have to look for places to run, in other words. Shouldn’t be a problem. What might give me...

Try something different
I am five hours away from my familiar running path, and without going into detail, I have been very busy from dawn till dusk working in a soon-to-be market garden, and it’s been easy for me to put off running. When I did have time, it was waaaay to hot, you know the way it goes… I will post a couple of pics, but for now believe me when I say, I ran in total isolation this morning. I...

Evening runs
3k = 19:09 Total: 4K = 29:09 I said earlier I’d go for a long run tonight. I almost had myself talked into not going at all (for shame!) so I’m happy about this. I could get used to running in the evening. My muscles are loosened up, it helps to clear my mind of the day’s sh*t, and it’s cool with no wind. Now if it gives me a good night’s sleep, it’ll really...

See the hills, take the hills
I just got back from one of those family reunion weekends. I managed to behave myself, but I changed my training schedule somewhat. I took my bike to the campground and on Saturday I went 9.7K in 37 min. (about 6 mi.) On Sunday, when I was supposed to do my long run, I cycled 17K in 1:08. (10 and a half miles). The roads over there are quite hilly so I got a really good hill workout. On the longer...
