New kicks
Now THAT’S better!
I tightened them a bit — not too much, because I can’t run in a snug shoe — but just in the lower loops where the toe box is so deep. What a nice fit!
That’s the second time this happened, me wearing my shoes too long. Duh! Once before, a physical therapist was responding to my complaints about Achilles pain. “I think you need new...

London's Run
This weekend I’m registered for a 10K, “London’s Run” at Schnepf’s farm in Queen Creek. The run was started in 2006 in honor of a little girl who had cancer. I read about her online: Her grace and spirit inspire all of us to take advantage of each new day without fear of doing hard things⦠cheerfully! Sounds like a good way to Do Life.
When I did it last year I...
Almost 10 miles
Just look at that blue sky! What a perfect day to run — not too hot, lots of pavement… but even tho it was supposed to be my 18K long run, I stopped after two hours. After 10 miles or ~16K, two miserable kms short. Damn!!
There was a fair bit of traffic, and since I feel I have no business running along the road, I would hop up on the ample sidewalk when vehicles came. My...
Nine hills
An hour, including nine hills. I ran 3K outside, then I went in and did Fred. (Fredmill). This was my sweaty workout. Fred makes me sweat. I tried to post some pics of this, but my sweat doesn’t show up as well as it should. Guess I’m not sweating as much as some other Tumblrs. I feel I’ve failed! (Well, not really.
At least my hair does look a bit wet, and honest — my...
Modified sked
Today’s workout: was supposed to be 5k. Instead: 40 minutes strength/cardio in the pool, followed by an hour and 45 minutes climbing, hiking, running and sweating over 7.5km = 4.66 miles of craggy hills. Endorphins rampant. Feeling fantastic!!
12K - 1:23:59
I thought this would be the Run from Hell. I was already to go when I remembered my iPhone had crashed this week and in order to restore it the Apple people apparently had to delete every song and every other useful and helpful thing on it. I of course did not clue in to this until I went to turn on my tunes and was informed “No Music”. Oh eff, royal eff!!! I will never live long...
Changing
I find myself changing a bit. It used to be, I sweated and struggled to run hills and I hated it! Now I find myself still sweating, struggling, finding it really hard— but LOVING it!!
5 km
Posted from my iPhone bec our computer is gone to a happier place.
5k = 33:23
An enjoyable relaxing run, but willI ever make a sub-30 time?
Running for time not distance
My Garmin crapped out so I had no way of recording my mileage. I ran anyway, for two hours. With some walk breaks in between but never longer than one minute. I was so angry at the poor thing that I was prepared to forgo the run, thinking I needed to know how far I was going which in reality was not the case as I found out. So glad I went!
The computer I post with is out of service, and this...
Modified hills
Had a good sweaty workout today. It was supposed to be a 3K run, seven hills, 3K run. I didn’t do it exactly like that. My run was followed by a stint on the treadmill with five modified hills: 8 or 8.5 incline, speed from 4.0 to 4.6, for a total of a mile. Running for roughly a minute and a half each time, sometimes longer, then about 30 sec recovery, sometimes longer. Random — like...
Too rich!
5K = 34:55
This was an evening run. It was a beautiful cool evening with a gentle breeze, nice and quiet. Absolutely pefect for running! BUT. It was a horrible run. Well, the middle 10 minutes weren’t too bad… However, stomach issues caused me discomfort and destroyed the pleasure I should have felt.
I couldn’t get out this morning so I went this evening. I like evening...
Nuts
Rest/recovery day today… did a water workout, can’t wait till my sister/trainer shows up and teaches me a right proper swim stroke so that I can move and do a few lengths, instead of splashing around in one spot, getting a sore neck.
The holiday season is over; I am safe. Or am I? Today it was chocolate and nuts, and then nuts and chocolate. True, they ARE healthy for you, only I...
Long run
16K = 10 miles (almost) = 1:54
I started out at a 6:30 km pace, but slowed down to 7:49 on the last km.
As a result, I’m already killing my Do Life Challenge. Ben said add 30 minutes; I almost did that by going two extra kms. But that’s only 15 minutes, still gotta do 15 more. Plus I did my pushups. Sadly, I did the modified ones, and I did 16. Maybe I’ll do a complete...
Correction
Yesterday I complained about struggling thru a 5K run because it was 69 degrees. Well, it wasn’t. It was 79 degrees. In fact, our thermometer said 82. Henceforth I shall be using actual electronics for my bleepin’ metric conversion, NOT the “tool” between my ears….
It wasn't pretty
6:49 - minutes for first km
10:45 - minutes for first mile
35:01 - time to complete 5K
22 - fl. oz of water consumed during run
7 - minutes for cool-down stretches
69 - degrees F temp when I started (correction: it was 79 degrees!)
2000 - degrees F body temp during run (estimate only)
It was a horrible run. I knew it was hotter than I wanted it to be, but it was one of those...
